Bighorn Sheep
Annual Closures
January 1 through April 30

Picture
$5,000 fine per individual for violations
This temporary Forest Service closure protects bighorn sheep during lambing season. It applies to all users, including climbers and hikers, prohibiting anyone from being more than 400 feet from an official Forest Service–sanctioned trail.

This closure includes such climbs as Void of Form and those on Pontatoc Buttress, Finger Rock, Golder Dome, Leviathon, and others.  Please consult the map (link below).

Restrictions: Cannot go more than 400 feet off designated Forest Service trails.

Areas Affected: Includes trails in the Pusch Ridge Wilderness near Mt. Lemmon, like Ventana, Pima, Esperero, and Finger Rock canyons.

No Dogs/Goats: A year-round rule prohibits dogs and goats in the Bighorn Sheep Management Area.

Be sheep smart and don't get fined! Consult the National Forest Service Order before climbing.
