Bighorn Sheep Closure -- January 1 - April 30, 2021
$5,000 fine for violations
This temporary Forest Service closure protects bighorn sheep during lambing season. It applies to all users, including climbers and hikers, prohibiting anyone from being more than 400 feet from an official Forest Service–sanctioned trail. This closure includes such climbs as Void of Form and those on Pontatoc Buttress, Finger Rock, Golden Dome, Leviathon, and others.
Be sheep smart and don't get fined! Consult the map (p. 4) before climbing.

It's raptor breeding season!
Nesting raptors are protected by law. CASA recognizes that any climbing area may be considered off limits subject to current nesting conditions. Do your part to be on the right side of the law (and the birds!), and have fun and be safe out there!

March Closure Update
The Santa Catalina Ranger District has updated the Mount Lemmon closure order put in place as a result of the Bighorn Fire on Mount Lemmon and the Catalina Foothills. The new order expires May 1, 2021, and opens some trails that were closed under the prior order.
The following trails in the Bighorn burn scar on the Santa Catalina Ranger District reopened on Wednesday, March 3, 2021 per order #03-05-05-21-01.
You can read the entire order here: tinyurl.com/8vvvtsfx
As with the previous order, the Forest Service trails listed in the order are closed, but travel within the burn scar is permissible. Please obey the closures and minimize travel within the burn scar to allow the land to heal and to avoid potential hazards.
The Forest Service will continue to open trails once they deem them safe to travel on. Expect updates throughout the spring and summer.

CASA's Statement Regarding the COVID-19 Pandemic (6/8 Update)
CASA would like to encourage members of our community to continue to be respectful of others as the world rolls back measures taken to slow the spread of the novel coronavirus and the summer heat begins to shrink the pool of temperate crags.
Climbing is a source for exercise, fresh air, and camaraderie which make it fundamental for the mental and social well being of many in our community. It is important that while maintaining our own well being we also continue to practice hygienic measures to ensure our personal safety. It is equally important to remember that the measures we feel comfortable taking may not align with the measures required to make another person feel comfortable.
Please be considerate of those we share our natural and wild areas with while recreating outdoors.
Stay safe and stay considerate.
