Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Statement

Purpose
At CASA (Climbers Association of Southern Arizona), we are committed to fostering justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion (JEDI) in all aspects of our work. This commitment aligns with our mission to ensure that all climbers in Southern Arizona feel represented and supported, regardless of their background, identity, or affiliation with specific community and./or climbing groups.

Scope
This policy applies to all CASA initiatives, events, partnerships, and communications, as well as our collaborations with local climbing organizations (LCOs), stakeholders, and broader climbing communities.

Commitments
  1. Equity and Inclusion in Climbing Access
    • CASA supports equitable access to climbing areas, emphasizing sustainable development and stewardship in collaboration with partners like the Access Fund and public land management agencies and other local climbing organizations.
    • We aim to amplify the voices of underrepresented groups by sharing and promoting events hosted by organizations that support diversity and inclusion within the climbing community.
  2. Collaborative Partnerships
    • CASA works with local LCOs that support diversity and inclusion to identify and address barriers to participation in climbing.
    • We commit to building strong relationships with organizations representing minority and marginalized communities to enhance inclusivity and representation.
  3. Education and Awareness
    • CASA will incorporate educational initiatives focused on the history and stewardship of climbing on native lands, fostering respect for Indigenous cultures and traditions.
    • We will explore opportunities to integrate JEDI principles into climbing education and event programming.
  4. Representation and Community Engagement
    • Membership or donations are not prerequisites for representation within CASA; we advocate for all climbers in Southern Arizona.
    • CASA commits to hosting inclusive events and ensuring diverse perspectives are considered in our decision-making processes.
  5. Implementation and Accountability
    • CASA will establish mechanisms to assess the effectiveness of this policy, including:
      • Gathering feedback from climbers and partner organizations.
      • Publishing annual reports summarizing JEDI-related initiatives and progress.
      • Periodically reviewing and updating the policy based on evolving community needs and feedback.
Policy Enforcement
CASA expects all volunteers, partners, and participants in our events to uphold this policy. Reports of behaviors contrary to JEDI principles will be addressed promptly and transparently.

Conclusion
CASA recognizes the importance of JEDI principles in creating an inclusive climbing community. By working together with climbers, local organizations, and public agencies, we strive to build a more equitable and welcoming climbing environment for everyone.
